Transpiration is the loss of water from the leaves for cooling the plant. It helps in upward movement of food and water because as the water is lost from leaf surface by transpiration, more water molecules (along with dissolved substances i.e. sap) are pulled up through continous column of xylem present from leaf to root.

Answer:
When water is lost through transpirationthere is a suction pull due to the low pressure in the plant, this force pulls the waters and minerals along with it. It is similar to when someone drinks juice from straws. The low pressure in the mouth forces the juice to come up the channel. Mark me as the best.
