How does using iodized salt help in preventing thyroid problems?

Thyroxine is a harmones produced by our body

Research have shown that deficiency of thyroxine harmones causes a disease called goiter

Thyroxine harmones is an organic compound having IODINE attached to the carbon chain

So if there is a deficiency of IODINE in our foods then our body can not make Thyroxine harmones

So it is advisable to take IODIZED SALT

Iodised salt are free NaCl which has traces of iodine added to it. According to the national iron and iodine deficiency disorder Control Programme, salt must be iodized for importing such salt.  

Explanation:

  • This is done to prevent a large number of iodine deficiency disorder such as goitre, Hypothyroidism and cretinism.  
  • Since the thyroid function is dependent on the amount of iodine taken in the food, the iodised salt helps in prevention of thyroid problems like goitre.
