How does valency of elements very across a period from left to right?​

On moving from left to right in the periodic table, valency increases up to 4 and then decreases. Valency of a particular element is determined by the electrons present in the last shell. If the number of valence electrons is less than or equal to 4, valency is equal to the number of valence electrons.
