How does valency vary in a group???

In a group the valency remains the same as they have same number of valence electrons.

valency remains in the same in a group because the number of valence electrons remain the same that is the no of electrons in the outermost shell
for example
for 1 st group the valency remains 1 from lithium to caesium and francium
....
