The movement of water up the xylem means morewater must be drawn in through the roots from thesoil. To do this, waterpasses from root cell to root cell by osmosis. As watermoves into the root hair celldown the concentration gradient, the solution inside the root hair cell becomes more dilute.

Answer:

Let's start from starting.

First, the roots absorb nutrients from the soil so the concentration of nutrients become higher and the concentration water in the roots become lower. So, through the process of osmosis water from soil (as soil has higher concentration of water) move towards roots (which has lower concentration of water). This is how water moves from soil to roots.

[Note :- Things always moves from high concentration to low concentration.]
