Both nightingale and cuckoo are birds with the sweetest and the most melodious voices. The nightingales song refreshes the tired travellers in the desert of Arabia. Similarly, the exciting song of the cuckoo bird echos in the fast off islands breaking the silence of the seas with the arrival of spring. However, the reaper's song is unique. It is even more melodious, rhythmic and rejuvenating than those of the two mentioned birds. The comparison is appropriate as the poet was left spellbound by such an enchanting experience.
