A silenced perspective is a technique the authors use to subtly convey a message. You can think of a series of movies that were produced by Bollywood in recent days. These were based on classics and the same story was conveyed with a modern perspective with a lot of social relevance. Here are a few examples:
Raincoat - based on O Henry’s story The Gift of Magi. Rituparna Ghosh was able to capture the silenced perspective of O Henry such that he could write the script for a movie like Raincoat.
Other examples are Iqbas based on Macbeth; Kaliyug based on the Mahabharath etc.
When you are able to read a text properly and understand it as an allegory you have been able to capture the ‘silenced perspective’ If you read The Oldman and the Sea or Jonathan Livingstone Seagull at the surface level and ignore the deeper meaning, you have missed something. If you understand the inner perspective, you will be able to review the book and make its relevance known to others.
