This section of your DIS should demonstrate your comprehensive understanding of a specific development issue in the world or your own country or community and demonstrate how it is strongly related to your desired master's degree.

I structured this section of my DIS as follows when I applied in 2018:

• There is no denying that challenges to the rights of women and girls as well as significant underutilization of female potential are prevalent in Nigeria.
• For instance, two out of every three children who are not in school in Nigeria are girls, and two-thirds of Nigerian women have ever been the victim of domestic or sexual assault.
• In the 2017 World Economic Forum Global Gender Gap Index, Nigeria slipped 8 spots to land at No. 122 (out of 140 nations), which is not surprising.
• These statistics are depressing, but they also serve as a powerful motivation for me to take action and significantly improve the lives of women and girls.
• This awareness is what inspires me to want to pursue postgraduate work in the area of gender and development.
