Answer:

Zinc react with excess sodium hydroxide to form sodium zincate(Na2ZnO2) along with hydrogen gas. Zinc is a transition metal which shows moderate reactivity. Zinc reacts with NaOH to form sodium zincate with the evolution of hydrogen gas. When zinc granules are heated with sodium hydroxide solution, then sodium zincate salt and hydrogen gas are formed. (b) When bases react with non-metal oxides, then salt and water are formed. Example: Calcium hydroxide reacts with carbon dioxide to form calcium carbonate and water.
