There is something known as Heisenberg's Uncertainty principle, which does not allow the position of really small particles, to be determined.
The point is, if you really want to see an electron or a proton, you need to use light of wavelength which is as small as the particle. But because the wavelength is very small, the photon is energetic enough to kick the particle from its position, and that means we really can't get to know about the initial position of the particle, we just get a fuzzy image of the particle because it is displaced from its original position.
