the electrons are arranged in different shells around the nucleus.the enerdy associated with an energy level increases as the distance from the nucleus increases; the innermost shell - or the lowest energy level - is filled first with the electrons and called the first shell. the shells are represented by the letters K,L,M, and N and K represents the first orbit where each having 2,8,18, and 32 respectively
