The chemical formulae of simple ionic compounds that the cation in them is formed from a metal. Therefore , Metal have tendency to form a cation by losing it’s valence electron, this property is called Electropositivity of an element.
When we go from left to right in a period the electro positivity decreases because electrons are added when we go left to right in period. When we go down in a group the electropositivity increases because when we go down in a group a new shell is added and the nuclear pulls become more strong and lose electrons fast.
