Carbohydrates, fats and proteins are often referred to as the substances most required for normal human health. They promote different functions of the body including repair, growth and general well-being.

They achieve this mainly through the process of energy release during digestion and respiration. Here, these substances are broken down by various enzymes in our body to form monosaccharides, lipids and amino acid respectively. These newly formed substances further break down complex sugars in our body and give out heat and energy during the reaction i.e., exothermic reaction. This energy is utilised for various needs of our body.
