Due to highly electronegative character of O ( oxygen ) atom and electron withdrawing inductive effect of ethyl group, the O-----H bond is highly susceptible to be broken. Thus releasing an acidic proton ( H+ ion ), resulting in acidic behaviour of ethanol.

Thus, we can also find that an alcohol's ( here ethanol ) acidity depends upon the stability of alkoxide ion ( here ethoxide ion ). Stabler the alkoxide ion, stronger the alcohol.
