Before going to 1857 revolt its important to mention all the acts passed by Westminster parliament during the company rule.
· Regulating Act of 1773
· Pitt’s India Act of 1784
· Charter Act of 1833
· Charter Act of 1853
By these acts its clear that even though India de jure had been under the Company rule but de facto its (company’s) work is regulated by the British government.
Now Revolt of 1857 was subjugated and suppressed by British forces as they are more trained, accompanied with modern weaponry and further backed by many regional landlords and Britain forces just retreated from Crimean war supplemented as additional force to fight the revolt.

The revolt of 1857 was also known as the Indian Rebellion of 1857. This was the major revolution and uprising of Indians against the rule of British East India Company. However the rebellion resulted in the victory of British but that was the first major spark which created the necessity of freedom among Indians.
The revolt extended for one year from 1857 to 1858.
Even the revolt ended giving victory to British it disabled the British ruler to carry their rule on the land with the same old policies.
