Rights are conditions which allow for the fullest development of individuals' personality and have a legal sanction. They are reasonable claims which are recognized by society and sanctioned by law.

All claims cannot become rights, only those claims can be turned into rights if they fulfill the following:

a. The claims are to be reasonable enough to be recognized as rights.
b. Claims must be made available to others in equal measure.
c. They should be recognized by a society.
d. Claims need to be sanctioned by the law, only then they become rights as they have a legal backing.

Rights acquire meaning only in a society because what is recognized by the society as rightful becomes the basis of rights. They are the claims that we make on society . They are made available to others as well and my right becomes my duty to respect the rights of others. It is only in the context of society we realize the justification for having rights.

Importance of rights:

a. Rights are conditions which helps to develop individual personality to the fullest.
b. They guarantee legal and political equality to all.
c. They seek to protect the marginalized group from the possible domination of the majority.
d. To seek to promote social justice.
e. Rights so recognized by law are enforceable and justiceable

We all want to live in a society but don't want any one to dictate us. For this we require other people to behave in such a way that don't harm us and in return we should behave in way that don't harm others. Society makes certain
rules to regulate this conduct.

Hope this will help u... :-)
