The native Indian rulers were also responsible for the Great Uprising of 1857. It is because the British unjustfully occupied several Indian states. On the pretext of the Doctrine of Lapse, several states like Jhansi, Satara, Nagpur, Jaitpur, Udaipur and Sambhalpur were annexed.
