The British agrarian policies and tribal policies were responsible for the widespread discontment of both the peasants and the tribals as these policies destroyed the traditional practices of the people.

For example, there were many revolts lead by the peasants such as the blue rebel, was lead by the peasants who were discontented over the issue that the British were forcing them to grow only indigo, which was in high demand for the British but, indigo fetched very low prices for the cultivators.these revolts lead by the peasants were one of the many causes of the revolt of 1857.

In the same manner the tribal societies were also affected and widespread resentment was spreading among them because of the unjust British policies.some tribal revolts like the revolts by the kukis of manipur, khasis of Assam, etc.lead some rebellions against the British.

Most importantly Birsa Munda, young boy, proved to be a hero amongst the tribals.he said to the tribals to give up the British introduced policies and he also lead the movement as Birsa Raj . Although the movement was ruthlessly suppressed by the British as he was jailed for two years and eventually Birsa died in 1900.

These were the discontentments boiling against the British.
