1 farmers use stem cuttings for growing sugarcane crop 2 they select healthy sugarcane plant for stem cutting 3 farmers chop off upper leaves and split sugar cane stem into foot long pieces 4 using a spade or hoe they dig a furrow about 6 inches deep and water the furrow 5 they place the stem cutting horizontally in the furrow but not upright 6 shorts will start to grow from the nodes of the stem breaking through the soil to form individul sugaercane stalks
