  • The creation of linguistic states was the first & major test for democratic politics in our country.
  • In 1947, the boundaries of several old states of India were changed in order to create new states.
  • This was done to ensure that people who spoke the same language lived in the same state.

2) Language Policy-

  • A second test for Indian Federation.
  • Hindi was identified as official language.
  • At the same time, many safeguards have been provided for other languages.

3) Centre - State relations-

  • Restructuring the Centre-State relations is more way to strengthen Federation.
  • After 1990, beginning of new era of coalition government.
  • This period saw the rise of regional political parties in many states.

4) Decentralisation in India-

  • When power is taken away from Central & State government & given to local governments called as Decentralisation.
