Oesophagus receives a bolus from the pharynx and moves by successive waves of muscular contractions called peristalsis, the gastro-oesophageal sphincter controls the passage of food into the stomach. This requires relaxation of the upper Oesophageal sphincter and secretion of mucus.

when we eat food the salivary gland produces saliva which makes food slipery and oesophagus is tube like streachable organ which makes way to move food into stomachs parts illeum.
