The mechanism by which sugars are transported through the phloem, from sources to sinks, is called pressure flow. At the sources (usually the leaves), sugar molecules are moved into the sieve elements (phloem cells) through active transport.

During photosynthesis in the presence of light, plant prepares its food .Just like water, these sugar molecules are transported to other parts of the plant with the help of vascular tissues, phloem to be specific.

Phloem transport sugars from a level of high osmotic concentration and high pressure called source to low osmotic concentration and low pressure called sink.

This mechanism through which sugar travels from source to ink is called pressure flow.
