Forest absorb carbon dioxide which is a green house gas which traps the sun's heat. So when it is converted to oxygen the lesser amount of green house gas in the earth and thus temperature is controlled.

SO FAR THIS IS WHAT I KNOW. I am not sure so please if I am wrong please forgive me.
