The age of a fossil could be estimated by the following two methods :
i) RELATIVE DATING : Fossils closer to the surface of earth are more recent than the fossils which are in the deeper layers of the earth
ii) ABSOLUTE DATING : Fossils or piece of fossil containing rock is analysed for the presence of radioactive content (like Carbon i.e. ¹⁴C )
