friction opposes relative motion of two bodies. when wheels try to overcome friction it applies force to overcome friction while this there is rubbing against each other and energy is lost in form of heat . this leads to wear and tear of wheels or other objects

SHOES : If we wear same shoes for everyday or for a long time its sole gets tore . This is because of the friction between the shoe and the road which makes the shoes .
