Friction helps to stop the bicycle when brakes are applied .
Friction creates problem as more force is needed to be applied to overcome friction.

At any point of relative motion, the frictional force comes into play. Following are few point.
Point of contact between tyres and the ground:The frictional force doesn’t allow it to slip(on hard road). It helps the cycle move forward/backward(depending on the rider’s wish).
Point of contact between wheels and axle:The steel balls inside the bearings helps generate rolling friction which is less than sliding friction. Also along with this, the use of lubricants makes the cycle ride smoother.
Point of contact with pedal and its axle:Rolling friction introduced by ball and bearings, helps to keep the pedal always horizontal thereby enabling us to apply forces(whenever required) and otherwise acts as foot stand.:-P
Point of contact between the handle and the frame:Same principle of rolling friction through ball and bearings helps us move the handle at ease.
