glucose is first converted into pyruvate and then due to lack of oxygen in the muscle cells it is converted into lactic acid to release very little amount of energy.

it is broken down first into pyruvic acid by process of glycolysis and then as during vigourous exercise there is lack of oxygen anaerobic respiration takes place and lactic acid is formed which gets accumulated in mucsle leading to muscle cramp with help of heat massage this lactic acid is broken down and we get relief and during anaerobic respiration 2 molecules of ATP are released
