How graphite rod produces electrical audio signals?

We can take a battery to get Carbon(Graphite) rod.Now, rest it on top of two razer blades wired to circuit.The sound vibration cause the contact resistance to change.

It is similar to the working of microphones in our old analog telephones.
They never use the graphite rods, but the carbon granules.
When the pressure speech waves hits it, then the resistance of granules differs that alters the current running through that converts sound into electricity.
In fact, graphite rods do not subject to any resistance changes on the compression process.
