Greenhouse gases trap the terrestrial radiation and don't allow the heat to escape to outer space. The greenhouse effect has an essential role in making the the earth atmosphere an ambient one for the existence of organisms.
The disadvantage of greenhouse effect is that it leads to global warming. The temperature of the earth's atmosphere gradually increases due to increased concentration of greenhouse gases.
