Green plant contain a special type of pigment called chlorophyll.

This chlorophyll traps the sunlight and used it to break 12H2O.

Then , with the help of CO2 , it makes their own food.

6CO2 + 12H2O -----> C6H12O6 + 6H2O + 6O2

Explanation

O6 comes from 6CO2 in C6H12O6 . This is dark reaction.

Breaking 12H2O in 24H + 12O is a light reaction (with the help of sunlight).

Except breaking of H2O , all the process of photosynthesis are dark reactions.

So, by the process of photosynthesis green plants make their own food.
