How ground water increases because of forests?

Yes because in a forest area fallen tree leaves (litter) acts as a huge sponge. This absorbs rain water and prevents runoff and soil erosion. The absorbed water percolates to the ground water an recharges it. No because in some low lying areas the groundwater becomes overcharged and rises up to the soil surface.
