Buddhist missionaries from China introduced hand-printing technology into Japan around AD 768-770. The oldest Japanese book, printed in AD 868, is the Buddhist Diamond Sutra and it contains six sheets of text and woodcut illustrations.

There have been many resources about hand printing and the entire printing culture in South Asia and abroad.

The Buddhist missionaries from China and adjoining area brought hand printing and advanced printing technologies to Japan.

This was around AD 768-770. There was the oldest Japanese book, printed in AD 868 that is called the Buddhist diamond sutra contains six different varieties of colourful printed sheets and illustrations as well.
