INTRODUCTION:Artificial selection is the selection of desirable characters in living organisms.

Advantages of artificial selection with examples are;

1)Develop high yielding varieties Eg;diseases resistant seeds

2)Seedless fruits like grapes,papaya etc

3)cloning eg;dolly (first cloned sheep)

4)Hybridization Eg;pomato(on the same plant tomatoes on stem and underground potatoes)

5)IVF (invitro fertilization)

6)tissue culture eg;thousands of saplings in short period of time etc

As opposed to natural selection, artificial selection has helped scientists and researchers develop disease-resistant, nutritious and high-yielding varieties of fruits, vegetables and cereals. Classic examples are the seedless and nutritious fruits that are available in the market today, as much as the high-yielding varieties of rice and wheat.
Artificial insemination and in vitro fertilisation have provided us with better breeds of cattle for giving more quantities of milk. Similarly, poultry farming has witnessed better productivity with artificial selection.
