The reason increasing number of industries in India affects the fresh water sources is because these factories pollute the freshwater sources. They discharge industrial waste without giving it treatment, they also release harmful chemicals. This mainly applies to rubber factories. These factories use a lot of chemicals and therefore pollute the fresh water sources. An example of a polluted freshwater source is the Ganga river. The Ganga river has been polluted mainly because of factories. There are of course other factors affecting the pollution of the Ganga river such as people bathing, throwing bodies, etc. but that is part of a tradition which we can't stop but can only temporarily reduce.
Hope it helps!
