1) India is a very large country with diverse people. Federalism has ensured that power doesn't remain with any one person or body.
2) Creation of linguistic states have helped in unity and has made administration easier.
3) States are autonomous units. Regional parties and coalition governments have led to new respect for these units and promoted unity as central government works with them.
4) federalism is the spirit of democracy. Democracy involved sharing of political power.
