Green revolution refers to the use of HYV seed and fertilizers to enhance the economy and lead to increase in production of food grains. But from mid 1960s to mid 1970s green revolution resulted in short terms gains for some areas. The use of HYV seeds was restricted to more affluent states like Punjab, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. Further the use of HYV seeds primarily benefited the wheat growing regions only. Also, only those farmers benefited from green revolution who had reliable irrigation facilities as well as financial resources to purchase fertilizers and pesticides.
