The Constitution of India establishes a federal structure to the Indian government, declaring it to be a "Union of States". Part XI of the Indian constitution specifies the distribution of legislative, administrative and executive powers between the Central government and the States of India.
The power between the Centre and the States in India is distributed under the certain criteria measures using a three fold power distribution system which are known as Union List , State List and Concurrent List.
• Union List
- Under Union list the Central government takes all the decisions which are related to national importance , i.e , foreign affairs , defense , currency and banking.
•State List
- It focuses on implementing development on all the fields which improve the condition of particular state.
- Local hospitals , market areas , schools , trade , agricultural fields , are some of the mainly focused areas on which state government implements their decisions.
• Concurrent List
- In this both the state government and the central government can put forward their respective decisions.
- It can be implementing new laws or passing any bill.
