The Green Revolution was a boon to farmers initially but there were issues associated

with it that affected both society and the environment. The excess use of

chemical fertilizers and synthetic pesticides and herbicides adversely affected the fertility of the fields and led to soil erosion. They even polluted the

water system around the fields. The farmers in those areas had to take tremendous losses by all these

drawbacks. In the long term the farmers had to make up for these losses.
