The midday meal refers to the programme introduced in elementary schools by our government to provide children with cooked lunch. The first state of India to introduce this programme was Tamil Nadu. After that, in 2001, Supreme Court asked all state governments to begin this scheme.
The benefits of midday meal are ---------------->

1. After this scheme was introduced, it was reported that more poor children than before have begun enrolling in the schools. Earlier, children would go to home for lunch and would not return. Now, after the scheme, their attendance has improved.

2. The mothers of the children would have to interrupt their work to feed their children. Now they no longer have to do so.

3. This scheme has also helped to reduce the caste prejudices as now, in the midday meal scheme the poor and the rich children eat together.

4. It has also given employment to many dalit women. Earlier dalid women weren't given any jobs. Now, they are employed for cooking food in the schools.
