Answer:

My mom gave me a great gift of a free spirit for my very strong and determined spirit. The only stipulation was to be kind and considerate, and that was simple because I treat people the way I want to be treated. Then she gave me the positive thinking philosophy through the Church of Religious Science, which I use every day. Positive thinking is natural for me in that I am happy and confident by default. I always knew who I was and what I wanted to be. No one ever stepped in the way of that expression.

The people who I attract and remain in my life add so much goodness to my life. I eliminate negativity as quickly as possible. Life comes easy and she told me to live my life; be happy and have fun. Again, that was easy to achieve given my upbringing, my quest for positive experiences and my happy, positive nature.

Nothing else really impacted my life because everything else fell into place in terms of relationships, career, marriage, parenting, etc. If I ever had a job that I did not like and I asked my mom for her advice, she would say “leave that job, you don’t need it.” If I wanted to come back home to regroup, chill or start in a new direction, my comfortable home was always there. That, in part, eliminated any struggle. My mom is a free spirit, and neither parent had any hang-ups about race, sex, sexuality, beauty, bodies, religion or anything biased. I never endured any abuse or neglect from family or friends.

I surpassed my mom in living my life fully and happily, but I attribute the values she instilled in me and how she impacted my life, along with those of my father, to a life that I truly enjoy and appreciate.
