Industrialisation and urbanisation have led to an increase in water scarcity because:
1. Industries need water to produce steam which runs turbines and thus produces electricity. A lot of water is used up in this process.
2. Industries need water to cool down the machines. A lot of freshwater gets wasted in it.
3. The industrial wastes are dumped into freshwater sources, which in turn polluted the existing freshwater sources too.
Hope it helps :)
