According to historical times, I think. mountains play a prominent role. The Himalayas protect us from cold central Asian winds. in historical times mountains are the main source for agriculture and for daily use mostly in summer. The Himalayas are responsible for re-treating monsoon which helps in the ripening of mangoes in south India. the peninsular plateau also the source of water in Deccan plateau
