How high would 1000 bricks be if they were stacked on top of each other? Encourage them to estimate the dimensions of real objects (e.g.
a brick might be 20cm long, 10cm wide and 5cm high).

Answer:
It is actually impossible to calculate the number a bricks in a wall with only one measurement.
If you have 2 measurements then you would multiply the length by the height and this gets you square meters of wall. Then you divide the square meters by the coverage of each brick. This will give you an estimate of how many bricks you will need for your wall.
For example: If your wall is 10m long and 3m high the wall will be 30 square meters. If your brick is 5cm x 20 cm each brick will cover 100 cm square or .01 square meters per brick. If we divide 30 by .01 we end up with a count of 3000 brick. This same method will work for any height wall and any size brick. You just need to measure the height of the wall and the size of the brick.
