A lot of crops require a lot of water and with the scarcity problem of water that is affecting the world nowadays, it is hard for the water to be divided for different uses. If a lot of the water is allocated to crop production then there will be less water left for the rest of the world to use. This will cause major economic problems in the world as less water will be left and countries will most probably wage wars on each other as water will become a valuable resource.

There are many food crops cultivated in India due to the fertile land, soil and climate. The farmers prefer growing water-intensive crops. Water along with rainfall is needed for the crops during its growth period.

Explanation:

  • Crops like rice, wheat, cotton, sugarcane, and soybeans are all water-intensive crops and require a lot of water.
  • Water is essential for the crops, food grains and livestock. Food grain production requires large quantities of water.
  • The scarcity of water can bring down the production levels and affect the growth of the country. There would be a scarcity of food grains for the growing population in the country.
