How hydrocarbons are formed in an automobile engine?

Hydrocarbons are, quite simply, raw unburned fuel. When combustion does not take place at all, as with a misfire, large amounts of hydrocarbons are emitted from the combustion chamber. A small amount of hydrocarbon is created by a gasoline engine due to its design.
