Onam is the state festival of Kerala and one of the most popular festivals of our country. Onam festival is celebrated in the month Chingam, of the Malayalees’ calendar. This festival reminds and commemorates one of the avatars of Lord Vishnu – Vamana Avatar. On this day, people also wait for the home coming of the great King Mahabali. The period in which he ruled is considered a golden period in Kerala. As a mark of inviting him home, Malayalees draw big pookolams (Floral Decorations) in front of their homes. State holiday is declared for Malayalees on the Day of Onam.

Onam Holidays:

After so many years we returned to Kerala for celebrating the Onam festival with my relatives and friends. Onam is the traditional festival of Kerala. We all know Kerala is also called Gods own country.

We are celebrated Onam festival in a unique way. Only vegetarian dishes are served this day. This is the tradition followed by all the Malayalees. On this day all my friends and cousins were traditional white sarees.

This white saree is very special in Kerala. Every year boat race is conducted by the Kerala government. This is special in the Onam festival. So we all went to see the race.

Everyone in my family had a delicious food in a big leaf with so many varieties of dishes. Onam festival is very special to me I really happy and enjoyed it a lot with my friends in the Onam holidays.
