Immunization or vaccination can eliminate polio because it causes your body to produce protection(antibodies) against the virus that causes polio.

The reasons why immunization can eliminate polio are as follows:

1. Polio is an intense infection that causes paralysis in muscles which causes disability in movement.  A polio disease might leave an individual incapable to inhale without the assistance of an iron lung, unfit to stroll without leg supports, or restricted to a wheelchair. There is no remedy for polio.

2). There are two types of polio vaccine :

   a) Poliovirus vaccine inactivated(IPV).

   b) Oral polio vaccines(OPV)

3) IPV gives serum resistance to each of the three kinds of poliovirus, bringing about assurance against paralytic poliomyelitis.

4)OPV works in two-pronged manner,

    a) It provides humoral or serum resistance i.e, it produces antibodies in the bloodstream. This helps to prevent the spread of the poliovirus to the sensory organs.

b)Since the digestive organs are the major site for poliovirus duplication, the OPV produces strains that cover the linings of the organs with a mucous film hence preventing any further infection.
