its important in the study of history because they will tell the exact truth which happend in the past and will not tell any lie about any famous person or ruler, since they weren't permanent subjects of the concerned king or emperor of any.

These are very important source of history.Historians can know about the social, economic and political condition of a particular period from the accounts of the travellers.For example the accounts of Fa Hsien and Hiuen Tsang helped the historians greatly to know the history of their contemporary periods.
