Buffer stock is stock of foodgrains maintained to protect against unexpected demand and supply variations. E.g at home your mother keeps a buffer stock of rice or wheat flour to overcome unexpected shortage of it .

So, if there is any situation of drought then and if we have a buffer stock then we will have extra food to eat during that situation...

The buffer stock is a commodity which is reserved by government and used when price rises and if country is facing drought. but in the public distribution system the government provide food monthly on the basis of family members.
