  • India has no language with a specific recognition as the national language, as it has an innumerable number of languages.

  • Article 343(1) of the Constitution stated that Hindi  shall be the Official Language of the nation . Article 343(2) also provided for continuing the use of English in official work of the Union for a period of 15 years.

  • But after 1965, the constitution was amended to allow both English and Hindi to continue as the office language of India.

  • Different states were created on the basis of languages spoken .

  • Nagaland created on the basis of culture, ethnicity and geography.
